Presque Isle County's largest river, Ocqueoc, is shallow, crooked and with rapids, was not good for transportation in the early days. The original settlers to this county were lumberman, fisherman, and farmers. The Michigan Limestone and Chemical Company of Calcite was founded in 1907. Today the world's largest limestone processing plant is located in Rogers City. Ocqueoc Falls are located in this county.
